Parks on the Air (POTA) is an international amateur radio program that encourages operators to take their radios outdoors and make contacts from qualifying parks and protected areas. Participants, known as “activators,” set up portable stations in national, state, and local parks to make contacts, while “hunters” work those stations from anywhere in the world. POTA promotes portable and emergency-style operating, low-impact outdoor activity, and awareness of public lands, all while keeping the rules simple and accessible to hams of all experience levels. With no membership fees, flexible equipment choices, and support for modes ranging from CW and SSB to digital, POTA has become a popular way for amateur radio operators to combine radio, travel, and the outdoors into a fun and rewarding on-air experience.
